Senior Management Team…
Jan Malmstrom
Head of Property Management
As Head of Property Management for Investors Direct Property Management, Jan brings extensive experience gained from what can only be described as a stellar career. She is a fully qualified Real Estate Agent.
Jan knows property management from the ground up, having managed her own LJ Hooker franchise for some 30 years, growing her residential roll to over 1000 properties over the last 12 years ownership of the agency.
Her knowledge and passion for property management saw her garner almost every award imaginable. She was the first female franchise owner to win the company’s highest award – the Sir Leslie Hooker Award – and in 1995 was the first female LJ Hooker ‘Admiral’. Jan was the inaugural inductee into the LJ Hooker Hall of Fame, Franchise Owner of the Year twice and Life Member of the LJ Hooker Captains Club for Excellence in Property Management. She is also a past recipient of the REIQ and REIA Awards at State and National level, for Property Management Excellence.
For the five years prior to joining Investors Direct, Jan was National Head of Property Management with LJ Hooker Corporate, responsible for property management training and the ongoing education of all property management staff within the LJ Hooker network across Australia and New Zealand.
Just a few years ago, Jan completed a Master’s Degree in Professional Studies (Property Management), the first person in Australia to achieve this qualification. Jan has always owned investment property, so she understands both sides of real estate investment.
Over all this time, Jan has never lost her passion and enthusiasm for delivering property management services at the very highest level and will ensure the Investors Direct Property Management team provide a superior level of service to all our clients.
Kylie Malmstrom
Licensee
Kylie began her career as an Office/Property Manager with LJ Hooker and has not looked back. A fully qualified Real Estate Agent, she has managed large rent rolls in remote mining towns, twice won REINT Property Manager of the Year and was a Member of the LJ Hooker Captains Club for Property Management Excellence.
At the time she left LJ Hooker, Kylie was offered the position of Senior Property Manager with Defence Housing and worked for the Australian High Commission in New Zealand for three years. So she understands the need for excellent customer service and how to handle even the most challenging and difficult situations.
When she returned to Australia, she managed a large residential Property Management Department and was then asked to return to the LJ Hooker Corporate team. She enjoyed her 5 year period as Regional Franchise Manager for Victoria before being asked to build a rent roll at Investors Direct, with Jan. Kylie has owned investment property herself, so she understands what it’s like to be a landlord and she also rented property, a good experience to have as well.
Kylie brings extensive capability and experience to her position at Investors Direct Property Management and is absolutely committed to delivering the very best in service to our clients. She is detail driven and totally focussed on ensuring superior administration and reporting are maintained at the highest level.
Kylie is second in charge and the Officer in Effective Control for I.D.P.M.

Alistair Shearer
Trust Account Manager
Alistair is a valued member of the Investors Direct Property Management team. He came to I.D.P.M. after 13 years of industry experience working in real estate/property management within the LJ Hooker Group. He worked at corporate level for 8 years as Systems and Marketing Trainer for the LJ Hooker Victorian/Tasmania network of franchise offices, coaching and mentoring teams of highly qualified agents across the rapidly expanding network of over 70 offices. Prior to joining I.D.P.M., he was asked to join a franchise real estate agency as Operations Manager, overseeing the sales and property management teams.
Alistair is a fully licensed real estate agent with extensive experience and knowledge of all Trust Account matters specifically, but with a great overall experience in all facets of real estate. Being an owner of investment properties and a landlord himself, he can certainly relate to the needs and expectations of our landlords, especially in regard to Trust Account matters.
Alistair has had ongoing training through LJ Hooker, REIV, as well as Console, which is the system used to run our Trust Account. He regularly attends real estate conferences, to ensure he is kept up to date with changes to legislation and market trends.
Brett Malmstrom
Leasing Officer
Brett is a licensed property manager with considerable knowledge of the property management industry. He is currently responsible for showing property in response to any enquiry as well as arranging regular Open House inspections for all available property. Brett manages new unit and townhouse developments, attends to entry and vacate inspections in conjunction with other team members and handles routine inspections when necessary.
In conjunction with other members of the I.D.P.M. team, Brett will continue to receive training to ensure he is kept up to date with legislation and changing market trends, with the R.E.I.V. and Console, as well as regular and ongoing in-house training. As with Kylie, Brett was born into the real estate industry.
He holds a Bachelor Degree in Information Technology, using both I.T. and real estate skills in his previous employment with LJ Hooker franchise offices and LJ Hooker Corporate. Brett has considerable experience as an investment property owner and landlord himself, a distinct advantage when managing property.
Raj Singh
Property Manager – Northern Suburbs
Raj is an experienced Property Manager and joined the I.D.P.M. team to manage our northern suburbs portfolio. Brett and Raj are both based in the north and work together on this portfolio, offering excellent customer service and response time to all prospective tenants.
Raj has an Agents Representative Certificate and has attended property management training at R.E.I.V., as well as with Console. As with other team members, Raj will attend ongoing training at the R.E.I.V., Console and any other external training courses that become available from time to time. Weekly in-house is provided as well on all legislative matters plus market trends etc.
Raj entered real estate in the sales area, but found that he had a natural and genuine interest in property management, so he very quickly made the decision to make the management of residential property his career. He has all the skills and experience, plus the passion for property management, which is absolutely vital in this industry.
Saverio Piteri
Property Manager – Western Suburbs
Saverio (Sav) is fully experienced in property management. He entered the real estate industry as soon as he left school and with years of experience already, Property Management is his chosen career.
Sav holds an Agents Representative Certificate and will be attending further property management training with the R.E.I.V. as well as Console. Weekly in-house training is provided to all staff members to ensure the whole team is up to date with changes to legislation and market trends.
Sav is responsible for the Western Portfolio of our business and as this is where he lives, he is well placed to look after all the needs and requirements of landlords as well as our tenants in the western suburbs. To help Sav with this rapidly growing portfolio, an Assistant was recently engaged to assist him run his portfolio more effectively and efficiently.
Jackie Chen
Assistant Property Manager
Jackie has been living in Melbourne for 12 years. He left his native China to attend Deakin University in Melbourne and holds a Bachelor Degree, major in Accounting and Finance, plus a Master Degree, majoring in Sustainability.
He worked as an Accountant Assistant with a well-known firm for 3 years, then became a business owner himself in Brighton, for another 3 years. Prior to joining the I.D.P.M. team he worked for an extremely large property management business in the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne, but made the move to I.D.P.M. so that he could gain a broader working knowledge of the property management industry and ultimately have his own property portfolio in the western suburbs. Property Management has become his chosen career.
Jackie is Assistant to Sav in the Western Portfolio. Apart from being responsible for all maintenance issues, data entry, tenancy agreements and other general administration items relating to the this Portfolio, Jackie assists Sav with Condition Reports, general reporting, Open House times and general inspections. As Jackie is fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese, he will also be assisting with all matters relating to our China clients.
Jackie holds an Agents Representative Certificate and has attended appropriate training with the REIV.
